Cooking for the Clueless

My dear friend Zuzy, has developed a DVD perfectly named, Cooking for the Clueless.
How it came about:  “Cooking for the Clueless” was born in our living room after realizing that we had a storage full of kitchen gadgets, appliances, and registry "must-haves" that we didn’t know how to use. While our kitchen colleted dust and eating out every night was the norm, living healthier and saving money was becoming more of a priority. We knew we had to change. The intention was there, but attempts were pretty exhausting. Then we thought of our virtual mentor, Donny Deutch, telling us “there’s gotta be a better way!” So we decided to make “Cooking for the Clueless,” bringing in the pros to teach us delicious basics from the "clueless" perspective.
Zuzy is auditioning to host Cooking for the Clueless for Oprah's New Network, OWN. Please check out her video clip HERE and see why she should be the next TV Star. Oh and don't forget to VOTE

For more information about Cooking for the Clueless be sure to pop by their website here.  It is full of useful info, such as yummy recipes, expert tips, their blog and the Cooking for the Clueless DVD, available for purchase.  Thanks Bloggers for supporting one of us.

what counts

Life has been hectic as of late.  My mom has been in town for the last ten days and leaves today, tear.  Eric has been really sick from his third round of chemotherapy.  I don't want to casually throw that in but it's hard to talk or even write about lately and I am at a loss.  What's keeping us me going? Our two little boys and our many projects going on around the Casa de Eric & Sarah.  The backyard redo is in full throttle, as well as the garage and a few other side projects.  I can't wait to share it all with you.
Be back soon!

manic monday

Do you remember the song, Manic Monday by the Bangles?
I think of it often when I am waking up on Mondays and just want to stay in bed.  As a mom, I am not afforded that option but that's okay, I have my coffee to wake me up.
How was your weekend?  We had a lovely weekend relaxing and enjoying the outdoors with our sons.  My mom arrived late Friday evening and we've been having a great time.  I am overjoyed to have her as are my sons.  Jake goes to her door every morning and lays on the floor waiting for her to wake up, it is a sweet sight.  I wish she lived closer so we could spend more time together!

This weekend was also a productive one because we had workers gutting our backyard.  When we moved into our home seven months ago the backyard had weeds 6-8 feet high, crumbled concrete and dirt.  We are finally getting around to phase one of our backyard redesign which equals new concrete {stained & stamped}, grass, plants, flowers and a organic garden of veggies & herbs {the little guys will have a hand in this}.  Here is our backyard when we moved in.

Here is what is to be done.  What do you think?  I'll post more pics soon on the progress made on the backyard!

what's in store

While visiting my local Target the other day, I found some fun decor for any home on a budget.
First up, the Keep Calm and Carry On slogan.

I think this vase is perfect for my family room.

End tables with a pop of color

I adore this pouf. It reminds me of the ones from Serena & Lily but way less in $$.
Any great buys you've found lately?

making a decision

Last week I had posted here about my dining room.  On Friday, we had a designer come out and discuss our window.  I enjoyed the meeting but still feel uncertain about what to do.
Here is a sample of what we pulled together.  Chocolate Velvet Curtains with a Greek Key Border/Trim.  I am leaning towards the Brown and Ivory Greek Keys border although I like the green/ivory as well as the blue/ivory border too.
{Sorry for the fuzzy pics but they were taken with my phone}
What do you think?  Like or not so much?

My inspiration for my dining room comes from these rooms. I adore this couch with the Greek Keys fabric.  It is amazing as are the colors, they flow together effortlessly.
Another couch I lust after.  The green velvet with the detailed trim draws me in.  The couch is the reason why I think I should have a border on my curtains, I love how it looks.

good start

Close to my house is this adorable and delicious Strawberry Stand.
In addition to strawberries they sell, red onions, garlic, snap peas and this week, cherries.
Since I've decided to make some strawberry jam today, I loaded up on them yesterday.

On a side note, a big thank you to my friend Kim, for bringing over the yummiest dinner last night.  It was a Tropical Island Pork Salad and I couldn't stop eating it, seriously.  I'll have to get the recipe and post it, if it's ok with her.  Having dinner brought to us, made our night easier and we are moved by everyone's kindness and generosity. Thank you all so much!

a busy day

We started the morning off early, too early for my liking on Saturday, but worth it so we could participate in the Susan B Komen, Race for the Cure.  The event was moving, with over 25,000 people showing their support for this important cause, cancer.
Following the race, we headed over to the Sacramento Zoo.  The boys and their friends {the girlie's in the pink tutu's} had so much fun.  They rode the train, watched a animal show, feed the giraffe and couldn't get enough of the lizards {my least favorite part}.  In all a great day was had and the boys were pooped by the end.  Ryan was asleep in the stroller before we reached the car and Jake within minutes of getting in the car and heading home.  Which equalled some quite time for mom, heaven!
